Dustin Hoffman a student? WTF?!

He was about 38 when he played the role! I don't know what Babe's age should be, so if he was supposed to play a younger role, but he just doesn't seem that very young.

Whether or not you can believe him as a student, I thought that his acting in this film was simply awful. He so badly overacting some of the scenes, it was cringeworthy. Why or why didn't they go with Pacino?
