Did Ms. Collins make her prom story up?

Maybe I'm putting to much on it, but after I learned Brian De Palma made Betty Buckley improvise the prom story Ms. Collins told Carrie, I thought maybe, just maybe, Betty Buckley's improvisation should make it look like Ms Collins made her story up.

So maybe Ms. Collins' prom wasn't so magic and romantic as she told Carrie.
It fits with my view of Ms. Collins. She looks lonely and she probably didn't have much luck with love in her life.

It could've been made up---she wanted Carrie to enjoy the Prom, to remember it--she knew how difficult Carrie's life was, and of course didn't know the Prom would end like it did. But nothing hints that Ms. Collins had an unhappy love life--she was the most intelligent, decent person (next to Carrie) in the movie.

There is literally zero reason to think she fabricated her prom story. Nothing to support that whatsoever.
