Remake?

If Disney ever decided to make big sccreen remake of this movie (Don't bring up the stupid TV remake from the mid 90's) who do you think they should cast in it? Who would you cast in it?

reply

As far as Tony would go, I'm not sure cause there arent to many little boy actors out right now that I like.

For Tia, I could see Dakota Fanning, Tessa Allen I think thats her name (the little girl from Enough with Jennifer Lopez). Those are the only ones I can think of right now but there's probably more.

the 90's remake was okay but it wasnt like the book it looked some movie
and gave it the same title

I Don't Think They Will Remake This It Has Already Been Remade.

I heard somwhere that Disney are actually thinking about doing another new version of it. I wasn't keen on the 1995 "Purple Light" version (as I call it) there wasn't even a Tony & Tia in it, they changed it to "Anna & Danny"

& if you've seen the special edition Witch Mountain DVDs, Kim Richards (Tia) ends her interview with the quote "People always akk me..what happened to Tony & Tia..why wasn't there another (3rd?) movie? Ah...who says there wont be?!?!"

- I'd love there to be a sequel!

reply

I actually have only seen the '95 remake, but i thought it was pretty good. I'm sure if i see the original, or read the book they would be better, but the actors who played the twins were adorable and i just loved the plot. And i thought Return from witch mountain was supposed to be the sequal.. am i wrong?

reply

You're right, Return from Witch Mountain is the sequel.

I hated the "Purple Light" version in part because Vincent Schiavelli gives me the willies in part because I loved the original 1975 version and then also Tony & Tia were never twins. Tony was two years older.

"Tia was three and I was five when the malone's took us in" ~Tony in 'Escape'

Anyways I am replying because I wonder if anybody recalls the 1982 Made-for-TV-movie called "Beyond Witch Mountain" that was suppose to be a pilot. It was alright I would have preferred If Kim and Ike were in it but only Eddie Albert (Jason O'Day) returned from the original cast. And Tia & Tony were played by Tracy Gold & Andy Freeman

Returning characters were

Winky the cat
Efrem Zimbalist Jr. who played Aristotle Bolt
J.D. Cannon who played Mr Deranian
Noah Beery Jr. who played Uncle Bene

Pilot/Made for TV movie synopsis was about Tony and Tia joining up with Jason O'Day and Winky to find a missing kid who happens to be from their world: When news of the boys amazing abilities surface Tony and Tia are sent to go find him because of their better understanding of earthlings. They join up with Jason O'Day and it is a race to find the boy before their old nemesis Aristotle Bolt does.

Kirk Cameron may have played the boy

Pro
Tracy Gold, who does not compare to Kim but none the less was so good in the role but her self assurance and maturity made it seem like she was one who was two years older than Tony and not the other way around

Tony in 'Beyond' still had to use the harmonica (unlike 'Return') to help him concentrate...the boy (the missing kid that is) also used a tin flute to help him.

Con
It looked as if Tracy Gold was squeezing the cat to make it meow on key

'Beyond' is so out of context with the series because Tracy Gold & Andy Freeman who played Tia & Tony are younger than Kim and Ike were when 'Return' came out. If you lined the movies up to make their ages make sense it would be Escape-Beyond-Return however Uncle Bene dies in 'Beyond' making it have to be Escape-Return-Beyond.

I liked this movie... but I saw the remake of it, I didn't know it was a remake... I also didn't know that there was a sequel to it... maybe I can go look for it... actually... I should probably look for the original one first eh?

This was another horrible attempt to cash in on the past success of others. They actually think they were paying tribute to Eddie Albert. But the fact is that they didn't deserve to be associated with such greatness of a man. The original had charm like no other. You had an earthy but highly accomplished actor with very humanistic old fashioned qualities and two kids who came across as real life kids, not actors. Children love to watch real interations amongst other children. Thats what made many of these older movies so great. Fast forward to now where you end up with a bunch of kids who have already been ran through the same standardized acting machine. They all act the same, look the same. And it gets old seeing the same actors over and over. All modern day movies bleed over each other and have too many similarities. Movies didn't used to be that way. They were like going on a ride that's like no other. Its a good thing that parents like myself appreciate the past enough to give it to our kids. I feel sorry for children who are stuck with the garbage of today. We are in a decade that doesn't offer originality and only likes to throw crime drama at us.

I agree. Some newer movies like because of Winn Dixie,Bridge to Tarabethia are good but alot fall flat

reply

I too have seen this show. I like Andy Freeman as Tony-but Tracy Gold as Tia was not good casting. As for the story itself, it was OK-but Uncle Bene dieing at the end makes no sense since this story was supposed to be after escape to witch mountain but before return from witch mountain. Since Uncle Bene is in Return from witch mountain, then he should not have died at the end of beyond witch mountain.

Cameron Bright would make a good Tony.

Not sure about Tia. Anna-Sophia Robb, maybe? Not Dakota. Maybe Abigail Breslin. She's not always happy and cheery. See "Keane." She can play dramatic well too.

reply

Okay, after seeing AnnaSophia Robb in more things I would say her for Tia and Cameron Bright for Tony.

reply

This is pretty strange. I don't get on imdb for 3 years, come back to see this post I made 3 years ago saying they should cast AnnaSophia Robb as the female part and they did in Race to Witch Mountain. I forgot I even posted this.

To my shame I have seen the shoddy Robert Vaughn version. But I fail to see with any film why people insist on remaking things that don't need remaking. Moviemakers have already done the unthinkable and released colour versions of 'Holiday inn' and 'It's A Wonderful Life' two of the greatest black and white films ever! Why can't people just leave things alone that are fine ad they are

reply

There is a remake. Horrible.

Most remakes are mediocre in comparison to the old films!

reply

They've always remade movies, they've been doing it since way before we were born and will continue to do it. That is the movie business, it really doesn't bother me but I do wish more original material got made. It would be nice if they sprinkle into the mix some all new ideas.

reply

If they remake it, I don't care who they cast. Just make it more faithful to the book than the 1975 film.
