The scene in the movie theater always cracks me up. Pooter steppin on the guys' shoes and the fight breaks out.
POOTER:"Sorry man, what more can I say but I'm sorry"
DUDE: "I oughta kick yo ass!"
2nd DUDE: "Say man, since you so big n' bad why dontcha pick on somebody yo own size?!"
1st DUDE: "I'll kick yo ass too!"
2nd DUDE: "Oh yeah, you n' what army?!"
1st DUDE: "Dis army: DE-SCI-PLES!!" a bunch of other dudes get up.
2nd DUDE: "You aint got sh!t, COUNTS!" an even larger group of dudes get up.

I turned to the channel just before this so I am bIased, but I thought I was the only one who got that Why don't you pick on someone your own size line. In a way it is not typical that 1 dude would tick up for a perfec stranger who was actually the folly for the whole audience up to that point. I like the You and what army line ? too. I wonder if these lines were fresh at the time or if they were getting in on the popular cliche's of the time.
shareThe "You and what army?" line was old at that point - 1974. If you watch movies from the '50s and earlier, you can hear that line and variations of it.
And i've seen films from as early as the ‘40s, where a person would come in and stick up for someone being harassed. They would say something clever or smart to challenge the troublemaker(s).
Aside from the "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" line, I also remember, for example: "Why don't you pick on someone with your own disposition?" (The Nutty Professor" (1963)). The Bar scene.
So by the time Cooley High was made, that line was already very old.
pick on someone your own size- I've heard in dozens of cartoons from the 40's & 50's.
