Where did the name Black Sun come from?

I thought that was just a black hole so why call it a Black Sun?

reply

The term "black sun" is a variation of "black star", which is similar to a black hole, and it's very possible that it may have been a black star that the moon had encountered and not a black hole.

BTW I just want to say, I've always assumed "black sun" was just a synonym for black hole that came from a time before the phenomenon was popularized as a concept thanks to folks like Carl Sagan talking about them on Johnny Carson and Cosmos etc. They were still a fairly fresh and new concept to the general public when Disney released The Black Hole in 1979. I always figured black hole, black sun and black star were all interchangeable names for the same thing and black hole merely happened to be the one that became the best known for whatever reason. Thanks to Fletcherj119 post from many years ago, I bothered to actually look it up and found that no, they are all similar but separate things. Cheers.
