Wouldn't the Earth be in peril with no Moon?

Wouldn't the Earth be in peril with no Moon?

I mean no more tides.

In Black Sun it's revealed that the base has anti gravity generators and artificial gravity. So that probably isn't an issue for anyone inside the base..

So in their version of 1999 they have artificial gravity generators. Wow

The moon already has gravity, because of its mass. Leaving Earth wouldn't change that. It's less than Earth's gravity, but it doesn't COME FROM Earth. Which would still be the case even if they suddenly had an atmosphere, like in that one episode. An atmosphere doesn't create gravity either.

"Artificial gravity" on the moon is just so they can show them moving normally instead of "slow motion" like when they had people out on the surface.

On "The Last Sunset", the alien cannisters provided gravity as well as atmosphere, so when the objects had departed, the moon returned to normal.

The moon's gravity wouldn't be affected after leaving Earth, but what would happen is that the moon would instead orbit the sun, like a comet. At the end of "Breakaway" the moon was heading for Meta, but it was implied later that they had encountered a space warp before reaching Meta which brought them out of the solar system.

I know but I was saying I was surprised they had anti gravity technology....

Those generators they used in Black Sun were projecting an anti gravity field.

reply

They powered the "Bergman Forcefield" with generators they had removed from all of the Eagles (except the survival ship).
It's possible the Eagles used partial anti-gravity forces to be able to pilot the ships within a planet's atmosphere (and gravity).

As others have pointed out here and in other threads.

In one episode they regained contact with earth and it was shown to have suffered massive ecological damage due to the moon rocketing off into deep space.

reply

Actually, extreme pollution was what had devastated the Earth during the twenty-first century. "Journey To Where" was the episode, although in the novelization the moon being wrenched away was said to have played a factor.
