Finally, an episode that I almost solved myself!

In the Cancellation? thread

Roger1 stated:

They learned that their mysteries on Ellery Queen were too hard for most audiences to SOLVE. The clues were too obscure, for one thing.

I don't generally strain myself when watching TV, since I'm there to relax, but I do appreciate a whodunnit explanation that makes sense to me after I hear it. Many of Ellery's explanations seem to be either based on something I hadn't even noticed and therefore didn't remember or else (as I commented then to Roger1) too convoluted to be plausible.

But we just watched Episode 17, "The Sinister Scenario," wherein Ellery and the Inspector are in Hollywood at the filming of a movie based on one of Ellery's books -- and I actually "got it" halfway through his explanation. (Well, almost got it anyhow, since I didn't instantly recall which secondary character had made a particular comment.)

So that one seems to me like a better episode than most.
