rewatching tonight

For the 50th of its date

Two things that I noticed tonight that have never really registered before

When the hitcher is with them, he talks about how using a sledgehammer was a better way to kill livestock. When Leatherface kills Jerry, it's with a similar instrument.

It's often used as a defense that Leatherface felt he was just defending his home from trespassers. But given the trinkets found around the old Hardesty place, it seems the Sawyers were trespassers themselves. Hypocrisy

I’m not sure but I would love to have seen how the Sawyer family functioned on a weekly basis. What was leatherface like without the mask? How many people have they killed? How did the hitchhiker live? I can’t see him being able to keep a job . Or perhaps how the family was treated by the locals nearby? I’m assuming they had to have some sort of human contact with others
