Or Kirsten Dunst as P

Winslow / The Phantom: (Jason Lee) would be perfect for this roll... in (Almost Famous) he sang and played the piano... He was Personal Quoted saying, "I wanted to be very serious about being a musician -- a guy who cares a lot about the music and the band and why we did it in the first place. We wanted to show an actual passion on stage with the intent of turning on the audience."

Swan:(Jason Schwartzman) he can act very well as we have seen in many times over... short, young and he a talented musician... Schwartzman's band, Phantom Planet, opened for Incubus on their 2002 tour. "Phantom Planet" later provided the theme song for the hit Television series "The O.C." (2003). Played drums on 2 tracks of Ben Lee's album "Awake is the new sleep (2005)".
(March 2007) Released his debut album, 'Nighttiming' for his band Coconut Records.

Phoenix: (Anne Hathaway) in the starring role of Ella in the film (Ella Enchanted... Hathaway proved her singing voice and she is a former top-ranking soprano in New York, she was the front-runner for the role of "Christine" in the 2004 The Phantom of the Opera (2004). However, due to scheduling conflicts did not take the part...

Beef:(Henry Rollins) got his start in music the as the front man for Black Flag and his own Rollins Band... and has proven him self as an actor... Rollins was Personal Quoted saying "there's nothing I’m not capable of" and so far there's little evidence to refute the claim...

""Plus it would be awesome to see him pull off the flam bounce of BEEF.""

Philbin: (Meat Loaf) would be a great Philbin he comes from a musical back ground and has proved himself to be a most accomplished actor...

The Juicy Fruits / The Beach Bums / The Undeads:
I think ether "every time I die" or "fallout boy" would be good choices...

Did Jason do his own singing in that? I thought someone dubbed his voice.

Soprano? The part calls for an alto, maybe Zooey Deschanel.

Oddly the rumor that is floating around is Jack Black as Beef, but as I stated this is a rumor still no official confirmation

"I'll get him back even as he gloats in the mean time I'll practice on less honorable throats"

reply

Where does that leave the more suitable Jack White? Remember this is anti mainstream. Anne Hathaway must be a joke. Sounds like a Universal manager speaking.

Anthony Rapp as Winslow Leach (Rapp looks almost like him, aside from many obvious but superfluous differences)

Amy Lee (of Evanescense) as Phoenix (bot Lee and Harper are powerhouse vocal talents, both very gorgeous, and charismatic, but Lee's never acted to my knowledge)

Jack Black as Philbin

John Cameron Mitchell (best known for Hedwig and the Angry Inch) as Swan

Adam Pascal as Beef (he kinda resembles Beef, only without the effeminate non-singing voice or the blond curls, and his singing voice reminds me a lot of Beef's)

Also (aside from Jack Black), this cast would be perfect for a Broadway adaptation of PotP.

Discussion on some of the suggestions in the above lists:

1) Jack Black -- would be perfect as Philbin, would be a disaster as Beef. Gerrit Graham was great as Beef precisely because he played it as 'straight' (with apologies to the character) as he did. Jack Black would not be able to resist clowning and satirizing it; this would detract from the performance.

2) Marilyn Manson as Swan or Winslow -- NOT a good choice for either. Both have to be able to at least marginally sing. (Have you ever really paid attention to the sheer musicality of the Phantom soundtrack?) Marilyn Manson, while being one heckuva performance artist is NOT what I would call a good singer. His voice is more of a rasp as far as I can tell. However, it would be fun to see him as a cameo in the scene where Swan is considering alternative singers.

3) Amber Benson as Phoenix -- this would actually be very good casting, IMHO. Unlike Anne Hathaway, she is a little less 'glossy', and would have the right look for someone as naive as Phoenix. And, having seen the musical episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", I can testify she can sing!

Actually, overall, I agree with the people who say one should go for unknowns and/or B-listers...this is a story that needs actors who do NOT have expectations already attached to their characters.

I have discussed this many a time, I generally HATE remakes, but this one could actually work.

For Winslow/Phantom the obvious choice is Marilyn Manson. Without the gear he looks like the nerdy Winslow, and with the gear, well, we all know how that looks. Remember, the Phantom's voice wasn't Winslow's (Finley's) but Paul Williams' voice, so it doesn't matter how well Marilyn Manson sings.

I could not for the life of me think of a good Swan actor, and my girlfriend finally did a bit too late in the car tonight. She said Prince would have made a perfect Swan. He had his own Swanage, his own vaults, and his own tapes. He WAS Swan! He also looked very young even as he aged. Unfortunately his untimely death means we will never see this.

Meatloaf as Philbin? Sure, why not!

Phoenix would probably be cast with Scarlett Johansson, which would ruin my feelings towards this remake. No clue who could play her.

Beef, maybe Henry Rollins, he can really over act, so it might work. Otherwise we would need a really good back up plan. Manson as Beef would NOT work at all.
