About the twist ending

I discovered this little gem on French TV about 20 years ago, and always remembered it fondly. I saw it again on DVD last night with tremendous pleasure. However, I still have a question about the twist ending, and I hope you guys can help me with it.

Who wrote the notebook ? Whose voice is it ? I cannot recognize the voiceover, since the DVD sound was not excellent, to say the least. That piec of information is the missing piece for me in this otherwise very enjoyable puzzle.

It's Baker ( Michael Jayston ).

Yes, it's Baker, the scientist. He probably had it in his testament (will) that once he's dead or something happens to him, the notebook should be sent to Elliot.
