greatest movie title ever?

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia is, in my opinion, the greatest film title. A teacher in high school told me about this film. The very moment he muttered the title I knew I had to see it. The title is just amazing. What are some other favorites?

"Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell." How could you not want to see that?

I cant believe no one mentioned Kill Bill yet!

you said it! And I'm surprised no one's mentioned "Faster, Pussycat ... Kill! ... Kill!"

Dunston Checks In.

Boy, they don't name 'em like that anymore.

Ernest Goes To Jail is another fine example of amusing film titles.

greatest movie title ever?

You're damn right!

"Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" is right up there with "There Will Be Blood" and "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead".

"The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada"- sounds a bit like BMTHOAG. Great movie too !!

Indeed it is the greatest film title ever. Apparently Peckinpah's pal Frank Kowalski came up with the original idea, and title, for the film, except he had some other name, not Alfredo Garcia. In one of the biographies of the director Sam is quoted as saying "I thought the idea was sensational" - he was right, it was.

Somebody else has already mentioned the second greatest film title ever - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (which, remember, was made way back in '74, before splatter films with stupid titles came into vogue). However, cult director Herschell Gordon Lewis had already come up with some absolute crackers even before that - The Gore Gore Girls, 2,000 Maniacs etc. Other titles (not necessarily the movies, mind you) I like include:

Mickey One
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Fourth Dimension (I think!)
The Evil that Men Do (only really cool if you preface it with the words 'Bronson is out to stop ...')
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Motel Hell
Get Carter
Straw Dogs
The Cars that Ate Paris
An American Werewolf in London

If they move, kill em!

I like "commanding titles":

Bring Me the Head (of course)
Don't Look Now
Look Back in Anger
Prick Up Your Ears
Play Misty for Me
etc.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe
The Fearless Vampire Killers or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck

And the greatest title of them all:

On I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, whenever they played Film Club, Graeme Garden always came up with a title that was a play on Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.

reply

yep one bad-ass title!

way before i knew anything about Peckinpah i too wanted to see this one just 'cause of its title.

there are a lot of others i loved but they've all been mentioned except for this one that i adore sooooooo much:

The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie

This is a classic title, one of the best ever. It conveys both the horror and the humor of this film.

A few other good ones from the '60s/'70s horror genre:
"The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies"
"Let's Scare Jessica to Death"
"Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things"
