Wouldn't the family get a huge settlement from Coca-Cola

Even back then I'm pretty sure Coca-Cola would have hooked them up

I thought the same thing.

Even back then they had insurance policies on their driver's lives in case there were accidents. Prevented them from being sued by the families of the drivers.

Still, this IS a movie.

But why huge settlement? I'm sure drivers sign a release that they are driving at their own risk, and the company tries to hire only good drivers. No settlement if CoCo Cola did not wrong. That would come from the other driver, if there was one.

There was another driver and it looked as if he was hit head on he not being at fault. Maybe not a huge settlement but she certainly deserved something. She tells her son that the two thousand was spent on the funeral. We aren't told if that came from CC or if they had that much saved. Either way they should have paid for his funeral and given her a couple thousand.

In 1989, a Pepsi truck driver took out an entire school bus full of kids. Pepsi was sued by all the families and paid big time. They were also sued by the truck driver, who alleged the company had not taught him how to drive the truck right!
