Who would you cast in a re-make?

I was thinking about it and I'm not really sure who would be good for both Paul and Jean.

reply

Ralph Fiennes and Chloe Sevigny.
Chloe could bring more realism to a certain scene.

No remake, it's perfect the way it is

There should never be a remake NEVER! But, if there was id have to put Willem Dafoe as Paul and Marion Cotillard as Jeanne. They're both terrific.

Richard Gere, Natasha Leone.

Paul - Robert De Niro, Al Pachino, or Josh Brolin.

Jeanne - Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, or Christina Ricci.

Adam Sandler ..he's older now and can make
goofy faces with a baseball cap on backwards.
The woman? Mylie Cyrus. She has that precocious
pensive aura about here.

Ohoho, I have to throw in the towel for Kevin Spacey. He is The One.

Just to play one more hand on the female role - and mostly because I don't know enough about Kristen Stewart, I bid:

-- Helena Bonham Carter (mostly thinking about her character in Fight Club)

-- I can see why people might think of Chloƫ Sevigny, but her core persona isn't "lost" enough. Fundamentally she is a Comforter, not simply a Tool. She would wind up saving Kevin Spacey. Hence:

-- Liza Minnelli. No, really.

-- Frances McDormand. True, she's hard as diamond where Liza Minnelli is defenseless, but she could do this role in a most special way. In most of her roles she has tons of concentrated verbiage, which she would have to do without for this one.

-- Carol Kane. She could portray even more of an abyss than Kevin is already facing: did you see her bit parts in Two and a Half Men? And she was just being funny, there.

BRAD PITT. He's been so insanely good lately. He's the right age for the part, has the looks and charisma, and after seeing The Counselor he can prove he can play a disreputable character while still making us sympathize with him. I can also see Spacey in the role. If James Gandolfini was alive and half his size he would be a great choice.

As for Schneider, maybe Marion Cotillard? I can't really think of many actresses who could maintain a foreign accent that well.

Always the most most pointless question... dumb people

"Always the most most pointless question... dumb people "

I agree. I assumed by saying Adam Sandler it would be
over the top enough to be outrageous.
Who cares about the remake. They should only remake the films that were crappy.

HAHAHAHAHAHA THIS WAS A GOOD ONE!!!

now seriously, Marion Cotillard???? SHE'S 35 FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!

Of course there shouldn't be a remake.. but if there was, I like the idea of Ralph Fiennes or Kevin Spacey, they both look perverted enough... and as for the woman, I agree with Christina Ricci or Natalie Portman...

oh, and if someone else mentions Kristen Stewart in anything related to Marlon Brando again, I swear I will go on a killing rampage!!!! (Check Brando's board to see what I'm talking about)

reply

First off I agree with everyone here who said NO ONE could EVER replace Brando or do any type of remake any semblance of justice. He epitomizes the role so believably, so beautifully. I adore Depp and his acting but he couldn't pull this off. The best actor in the world is Gary Oldman, HE is the penultimate "character actor" without question, so he's a possibility. But for Jeanne, you'd need to find someone like a young Jennifer Beals or something.

Either way, no one could ever do any remake justice. This film, as it is, the very original, just rocketed to space the entire concept of such a film.

Some films CAN actually be remade, but this is too much of a classic, cutting edge film. Having said that, I'd give Kevin Spacey probably the highest score due to his versatility as well.

Of course the film shouldn't be remade. Very, very few should be (despite the fact that very, very many are). But, if it HAD to happen -- like, a gun-to-the-head situation, then it should star Elias Koteas and Leelee Sobieski.

Paul- Ralph Fiennes
Jean- Audrey Tautou
Tom- Mathieu Kassovitz

reply

If they were to make a remake, it would have to be a twist. It should be a young guy and an older woman this time.

reply

sean penn and kristin stewart

reply

Sean Penn ... oooh, good one ...

reply

if it was announced that Bertolucci was "updating" Last Tango, and moving it to New York in 2012, and had cast Sean Penn and Kristen Stewart, people would go insane with anticipation.

but this film will never be remade/updated/rebooted, etc. it's one of a kind. so don't worry.

reply

I think Russel Crowe and Jessica Biel

reply

They better not remake this movie its one of those movies that left in the right hands comes out great.i feel like today if they were to do this movie it would just turn out to be a weak hollywoodized attempt at artistry in film
