What Makes This Movie Unique

During the forty five years I have watched movies (and I originally saw the Sting when I was 20 years old), the movie maker either allows you in to know what is transpiring or you are kept in the dark. That's what made Columbo unique. You knew the murderer from the get go. The thing about this movie is you think you're fully in on the con with Gondorf and Hooker, but they even con you that Hooker was not betraying Gondorf, but simply playing the con out to fool Snider and eventually Lonergan. This was the only movie that I ever attended that when it was over and you were now in on the whole con, you felt like you had been played. The audience got up and gave a one minute standing ovation. Never, ever witnessed that. As to Spoiler Alert, the movie is 42 years old and no one is gong to care......Ya folla?

But Hooker isn't telling Gondorf the whole truth. Gondorf doesn't know that Hooker is in trouble with the cops. Hooker didn't want Gondorf to know it and is trying to deal with it himself. When Gondorf realizes it he puts that guy, whom the audience is being led to believe is Salino, on Hooker to protect him.

Makes me wonder. How long did it take another movie to achieve that? THE SIXTH SENSE?
