nudity?

What hadppened to the skinny dipping scene? that if the funiiest thing I have ever seen!
Was that part of the original release to superimpose the brances over them?

reply

I always wondered the same thing. It looks so fake.

It was a PG movie and probably aimed at teenagers. So maybe they covered up the naughty bits to get the PG rating.

reply

It wasn't released in theaters, it ended up a TV movie. It had to be cleaned up in a hurry for the network.

It was the two hot leads, thankfully NOT Strother Martin!

That's the moviemakers' philosophy. It's immoral to show nudity, but moral to show cruelty and killing.

reply

I totally agree with montgomerydou55. It's okay to show animal cruelty but God forbid you see a breast. I really wonder what's wrong with our society. Violence is okay but nudity is not? Talk about messed up priorities.

Long live the 70s!

In the late 1970s, our local Creatue Features showed the orginal theatrical cut of this film. The skinny dipping scene was left intact. Who knows why the Encore presentation, Video release as well as DVD release feature drawn on foilage in the "bare behind" sequence? Maybe movie might get a higher rating? GP film to an R?
I recall in the Solaris remake, if Clooney showed his rear end, the movie would have received an R rating. So scenes of Clooney's tush were excised.

reply

Back in 1973 u could get nudity into a PG film with no problem...but that's no longer the case. That's why they added the leaves. I remember seeing it uncut and seriously--it's not THAT explicit. I think it would get by with a PG-13 today.

reply

The additional leaves were included in the original theatrical release. The skinny dipping scene probably showed the butts of the two leads...but someone decided a PG rating was only possible with the censorship. As has been mentioned by others...animal cruelty is O.K. to show.....but not human nudity......now THAT'S screwed up.....and quite sad.

reply

What's even more silly is that you can plainly see the character Steve's bare butt through the clear shower curtain while he is taking a shower. If we're allowed to see that then why weren't we allowed to see the characters skinny dipping? I think that censorship rules are crazy and often inconsistent. Frankly I don't see what the huge deal about nudity is anyways. Every person on this Earth has a naked body after all.

reply

Yep, Reb Brown's butt was visible through the curtain, and what a butt it was!! Wished he didn't use a shower curtain!
As for the skinny dipping scene, god, it was the early 70s!! There was so much frontal nudity then and no one cared. I probably would have felt weird seeing Brigita von Trapp's ass and boobs though.

reply

What's worse, at the 1 hr and 6 minutes mark, there's an actual black box covering Kristina's nude body. You can tell the box was not only put there in post production, but also made to look like a lamp!!!!

reply

Maybe if someone rubbed the lamp they thought they could get 3 wishes.

Creasy: Okay, my friend. It's off to the next life for you. I guarantee you, you won't be lonely..

reply

I remember seeing this movie in a theater and the leaves were not superimposed over their bodies. I thought that it was done later for television.
