This is certainly one of the worst westerns I've ever seen

That's I'll I've got to say. I'll try not to even think of this movie again.

This is one of my favorite westerns. I have this on DVD because I enjoy it so much. Fonda and Terrence Hill are great together in this. They feed of each other so well. Surprising this movie is on Netflix steaming. 'm going to watch it this weekend. Also going to check out My Name Is Trinity.

I agree, this movie is a complete turd. I endured because it has a good rating at IMDB and kept waiting for it to get good...for two painful hours. The soundtrack is dated and atrocious, bad editing, dumb script, and very poor acting (everyone besides Henry Fonda). There is easily 30 minutes of fat to be trimmed off this turkey.

A missed opportunity, the premise could have been crafted into something watchable by skilled professionals. Instead, it's obvious that most of the budget was blown on drugs (hey, it WAS the 70's). Or at least I hope so, that would be the only excuse for this steaming pile of crap.

For those looking for a spoof that is actually funny and well-made, watch Blazing Saddles or even Paint Your Wagon. For those wanting to waste two hours of their life, watch My Name is Nobody.

Just watched this movie... I thought it was average. 5/10.

It had its funny moments but many parts of the movie was over done and too cheesy. The acting and script were poor. The only thing that was worth watching is Henry Fonda's performance. Not his best, but the best thing in the movie.

Boring and lengthy. I will never try anything that even resembles Western comedy again.

Sure, you're entitled to your opinions. I cannot see why one see this as really bad.

Many, as do I, find this movie hilarious & semi-riveting. Sorry for you that your entertainment enjoyment doesn't expand that far.

Curious about:
- Know that this is a subtle comedy?
- What western-type (southwest US oriented) flicks do you like; serious ones?
- You do realize that most western movies are inaccurate representations?
- Where were you born & raised?
- What year were you born?
- What types of movies are worst & best to you?

I don't know why I'm even responding. Doesn't matter to me.
I think it's partly because you don't "get it" (the points of the movie), & I slightly wanna figure that out.

Maybe if you were drunk & loosened up (not a tight-ass), you would enjoy it.
Just a guess; I could easily be wrong.

I don't agree with the OP either. I think one mistake too many people seem to make is to compare it to "serious" (spaghetti) western or even expect anything like that, just because they read names like Sergio Leone or Henry Fonda, and not a comedy/western parody.

As I've known Terence Hill films since I was a little kid (and I also saw this movie for the first time when I was a child) I never expected it to be more than a funny (sometimes even silly) good time movie and liked it as such (I only understood the parody when I got a little older, which made me appreciate this movie even more).

Comparing this film to films like "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", "Django" or "3:10 To Yuma", and claiming that it's the worst western you've ever seen, is a bit like comparing "The Naked Gun" to "Chinatown", "Touch of Evil" or "The French Connection"" and claiming it's the worst crime movie you've ever seen.

But even if one wants to compare it to other westerns, IMHO it's not the worst western. I've seen plenty which were far more boring and formulaic. There are so many which are just uninspired variations of the "bad guy terrorizes town good guy comes to rescue"-plot. Don't get me wrong, there are many great westerns, but also plenty of bad ones which IMHO are not entertaining or original at all, and in that case I'd rather watch a western parody or comedy like "Blazing Saddles", "Carry On Cowboy", "Back To The Future Part III", (The Marx Brothers) "Go West", "Lo chiamavano Trinità..." or ""Il mio nome è Nessuno". Or read a "Lucky Luke" comic ;)

If somebody wants to watch a more serious/traditional spaghetti western starring Terence Hill I'd recommend "Dio perdona... Io no!" (the original cut).

You expanded my analysis.

Like I previously posted, the OP & others have their own opinions, based upon interests & such, but for them to equate this to other Westerns is off.

Sure, it doesn't matter if they don't like it, but to criticize for non-points is irrelevant. That's like loud-mouthing that a great pianist cannot ice-skate. So what!?

The movies with Terence Hill are great -- my opinion. Fairly funny, & I don't care about the dubbing.

BTW, most or all of his movies were never made in any one language. Each actor spoke his/her language, & were dubbed later.

I've gathered, but not sure, that Terence Hill does not even speak Italian, but German, being raised there. Funny that there's one voice usually dubbed for his part, which I became accustomed to, but that's not his.

I've exhausted his films, I don't think that there are any more for me to watch.

BTW, I first saw this film, on cable, by chance, in the early 90s, when I was in my 20s. It was only in the last year that I pursued more Terence Hill movies.

Well, I love it. But to be fair, my opinion may be slanted since I was on the set at the age of 14, got to hang out with Henry Fonda & Terrance Hill for 3 weeks. Also made friends with a great guy named Sergio who was very nice to me. I realized just a few years ago that it was Leone. So... yeah, I love this film.

That is very interesting! Are you lucky enough to have any memorabilia from the movie? Or just great memories? I would love to hear any stories you have about it.

reply

I'm not going to say its terrible, because Henry Fonda is in it, and Sergio Leone is the best Western director ever, at least in the top 2 or 3.

That said, this movie does not even begin to compare to the genius that is Once Upon A Time in the West. This is like a slight shadow compared to that film.

Once Upon A Time ITW is a great, great film, but I have to say that Leone's Good Bad Ugly is greater. Leone was a true master.
