MAJOR FACTUAL BLUNDER

Early in the film, Blake tells two women that he won a bet by naming the first screen pairing of Alan Ladd & William Bendix. Blake proudly announces it was BLUE DAHLIA. Only problem: DAHLIA was released in 1946 and THE GLASS KEY (also starring Ladd & Bendix) came out in 1942.

How in the world did no one catch this during production???!!!

reply

Or . . . it was done on purpose. Why would the screenwriter do that?

reply

The girls didn't know, so it was really just bravado. Did they even know who Alan Ladd was? Regardless, the line didn't work.

reply

Wintergreen also tells the women that he is exactly the same height as Alan Ladd, but Ladd was actually 2 inches taller than Blake.

reply

Minor factual blunder, as in not that important (and not SHOUTED IN ALL CAPS).
