This movie needs to be remade

Its OK but a lot of room for improvement. A remake should be darker and have less camp.

Coens to direct
Emma Stone as Hannie

There is NO Gene for the Human Spirit.

In this particular case I agree. The mixture of camp-comedy and serious rape-revenge western was awkward at best. This could have been much better, but I think that Hollywood is more concerned with ruining good movies then improving bad/average ones.

Thats true.

Kate Mara would be perfect. I think she would really pull it off.

Sharon Stone.

reply

Does it have to be Sharon Stone?

reply

Not necessarily. I just haven't seen any women in such a part lately who might be believable. Bad Girls and Bandidas was okay and the performers were fun to look at but I don't think any of them would be believable. Who do you suggest?

reply

Kate Mara from Shooter, Nip/Tuck is my No. 1 choice. I think she could really pull it off. She's a natural red head and she wouldn't have to dye her hair for the role. Raquel Welch was only 30 when Hannie Caulder was filmed, maybe the remake needs a younger actress for the role.

sgraf, I said the same thing in an old thread on this movie. Hollywood spends too much time on remakes that aren't needed (e.g.Psycho). Much more interesting to consider how to make poor/mediocre films into good ones. Several comments miss the point: get rid of the "glamor" actress & go for something grittier & more realistic, akin to "The Unforgiven". There's a good movie hiding inside "Hannie Caulder".

What we have here...is a failure to communicate.

Do you have to follow me around remaking everything?!? Hoppy (Hopalong Cassidy) Vanishing Point?!? Can't you go to Tazmania and make the world better? I swear!! They remade Flintstones and Lone Ranger aren't you ever satisfied?!? Ha Ha No!! We're not remaking "Network"!! Stop asking!!! John

reply

PS And we're NOT remaking my #1 film: "Death Wish". Charles Bronson is perfect!! You cannot improve on that one. Got it?!?

PSS Leave "JAWS" alone!!! Dammit!!!!

Emma Stone is not nearly hot enough. Hannie needs to be as sexy as possible; not just cute. That's the dichotomy. She's a beautiful woman who can also handle a gun. They don't show her character before the rape, but to accentuate the contrast, they should show her as being as feminine as possible. Frankly, I can't think of any actress today that comes close to being as hot as Raquel Welch. Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie are the closest, but they're getting a bit too old for the role. Tarantino would be the perfect choice to direct. At the least, he should executive produce.

It was remade as "6 Guns" (2010) and is about on par, but fittingly grimmer https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1558576/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0. People tend to dismiss it because it's an Asylum production, yet it's a worthy Western. It might be slightly better than "Hannie Caulder" if for no other reason than the villains aren't as hammy and supposedly comical.
