Tom Hagen running for office...

Remember reading one of the novels and Michael was talking about Tom running for Congress in Nevada.

Been years since I've read the novels. But I remember Fredo making a joke about "Shea/Hagen 1960".

Think James Shea was based on JFK. Shared many similarities. James Shea Father knowing Vito Corleone personally. Similar to Joe Kennedy's alleged connections to organised crime.

Interesting. I always wondered if having Hagen\Duvall could have saved III.

I agree, they must've had to change the story pretty late on.

Tom was meant to be a major part of the story in III. He was to turn his back on Michael at some point in the story.

The Vatican conspiracy was likely always going to be part of the major plot.

But it would have been nice to see Tom Hagen leading some sort of Coup against Michael. You could see his weaning loyalty coming out in II.
