Prices of DVD/VHS

First watched this film as a child (now 39) and I still love it.

How come it's so expensive to buy.I know its out of print but so are alot of other films and they are not so expensive.
I'm lucky to have a copy of both the original VHS and DVD but was curious about why they are so valuable

reply

I have no idea. I've wondered that myself.

I bought the film the moment the DVD was released, for £12.

Only a small batch was produced, and all were snapped up quite quickly so naturally, when a seller knows they have a product which is highly-sought after but rarely available, they'll push their prices up.

Yes, it's as simple as supply and demand it would seem. The fact it only rarely gets shown on TV only adds to this.

Nothing against 'The Railway Children' but it's shown so often it's as if there is some kind of law it must be shown on public holidays. I would have liked to have seen 'The Amazing Mr Blunden' screened as a tribute to Lionel Jeffries, but as usual it was overlooked in favour of the oft screened 'The Railway Children'.

At the moment it is selling more reasonably in the region of £16 on Amazon, it has a German cover but apparently the dvd itself is English according to the sellers, and it's region 2. Better than the £70+ asking price for the British cover dvd.

For those who haven't figured this out by now it's on YouTube.
