It did exist!

It wasn't just a figment of my delusional mind! Aside from my brother, I can't find anybody that remembers this show. Maybe that explains why it had such a brief run.

I see some definite parallels to Family Guy. I'm sure Seth must have been partially influenced by this show.

I too would love it if it came out on DVD. I'd even settle for a run on TV Land or Cartoon Network.

UN science director:(slight French accent) This is supposed to be a peaceful exhibition of scientific breakthroughs for the betterment of all mankind, and you show up with this...this...this weapon of devastation!
Dr. Venture: Weapon!? What are you talking about?
UN science director: Well what the hell do you call it?
Dr. Venture: The Oo-ray, I mentioned that! Why, the applications are limitless!
UN science director: Are you kidding me? You blew up a model city with it! What are we supposed to think? Look, it even melted all the little people and stuff!

A few years ago this show was on Portuguese television. I didn't watch it religiously, but if I caught it on TV I'd sit and watch it. It was really unique, a funny, depressing, serious animated series. I've been thinking about it lately, wishing I could somehow watch it again.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Eureka, I finally found it! I just found out by reading the Wikipedia article on the Simpsons and they mentioned how What 'til Your Father Gets Home as being the last animated primetime show--I had a good feeling that this was it. I have wondered the name of this show for a long time! I knew this show really existed and wasn't a figment of my imagination, but only had my memory of the theme song to go on. Before finishing the wiki-article I was about to ask the creators of the Simpsons if they may have knew about this show. Perhaps this intro inspired the Simpson's intro (father driving home). Funny that I am not the only one who wondered about this!

My sister and I, being kids when we were exposed to this show in the early eighties, made up our own lyrics to the song (as kids sometimes do). Not too long ago I emailed a cartoon expert trying to figure the name of this show and even gave him our improvised lyrics that mimicked the melody but his best quess was Family Dog (cartoon spin-off from Amazing Stories). I don't remember ever watching WTYFGO all the way through and now I know why: it was an mature-themed cartoon. Another thing I remembered was the roof of the house jumping when the front door slammed at the end of the intro (saw this, too, on the trailer for the show).

Thanks, CPC8472-1, for confirming it for me by posting a link to the theme song!

I love my mom and dad and my brothers too and the groovy way we get along

Wait til your father gets, until your father gets, wait til your father gets home!

I forgot the rest of the words to the theme song!!

yep, i told people they were wrong when they would insist that the Flintstones was the last prime time animated series on network tv and i'd bring up 'wait til your father gets home' and they'd say i was clueless ...

well, guess who's clueless now :P lol ... i remember it as a good show but then again i don't remember specific episodes or plots so obviously i'd need to see it again after all these years ... but i knew it was on at least :)
