It wasn't just a figment of my delusional mind! Aside from my brother, I can't find anybody that remembers this show. Maybe that explains why it had such a brief run.
I see some definite parallels to Family Guy. I'm sure Seth must have been partially influenced by this show.
I too would love it if it came out on DVD. I'd even settle for a run on TV Land or Cartoon Network.
----------------------------------------------------------- UN science director:(slight French accent) This is supposed to be a peaceful exhibition of scientific breakthroughs for the betterment of all mankind, and you show up with this...this...this weapon of devastation! Dr. Venture: Weapon!? What are you talking about? UN science director: Well what the hell do you call it? Dr. Venture: The Oo-ray, I mentioned that! Why, the applications are limitless! UN science director: Are you kidding me? You blew up a model city with it! What are we supposed to think? Look, it even melted all the little people and stuff!
They have it here in MP3 format but the sound quality is so-so. As this show predates VCRs it was probably taped off the TV with a portable tape recorder as I used to do back then.
My, there seems to be qiute a few sites dedicated to, or at least giving a mention to, this show. ---------------------------------- Monarch henchmen 8: When I met The Monarch, I was hooked on crack cocaine, I get in all kinds of trouble. Monarch turned my life around. How bout you, why'd you join up? Monarch henchmen 21: You guys kidnapped me when I was 15!
They were showing reruns of this show when I was a kid. Until now, I thought I dreamed up the show to. The only reason it sticks in my mind is because of the nature of the show.
wow... I'm really glad you guys are talking about this show. I'd seen it once or twice as reruns on cartoon network a few years back and I was begining to wonder if I was dreaming it up. No one else here seems to have ever heard of it. I remember most the neighbour, forget his name, who always seemed to think people were kgb spies. The dialogue between him and the father was CLASSIC. They NEED to release this on dvd... or at least on VHS.
This show rocked!!! Damn, I sure do wish they'd bring it out on DVD. I remember it from somewhere in the mid seventies when I was just a little kid of about 5 or 6. Every now and again there's a video up for sale on ebay, and the prices go through the roof!
I was definately a TV junkie as a kid. This was one of my favorites and I still remember the theme song. When ever I'm tripping TV memory lane with friends I seem to be the only person who saw this show.... Anyone know if Netflicks carries it (don't get Cartoon Network).? It'd be great to watch again to see if it's still as good as I remember.

WTYFGH was added to TVShowsOnDVD.com over four years ago, but there's never been any 'news' about it. If you have (or create) an account, you can add it to you wish list though, and the site will send you updates if they occur.
I remember this show as a child. It premiered a year before I was born but I saw it a few years later in reruns. Talk about memories. I would love for reruns of this show to be back on t.v. today.
As much TV as I watched in my 40+ years of life and this show completely slipped under my radar. That is, until recently. I recognized Tom Bosley as the voice of Harry Boyle when I watched my first episode even before the credits rolled. I remember thinking, " So this is what Tom Bosley did after Happy Days". Then, to my amazement, I saw a copyright date of 1972 in the credits. I did a subsequent Internet search where I discovered that the show ran for 2 seasons, in 1972-73 ! This would mean that it was just prior to Happy Days, which I believe began in 1974.
What a funny and cute show ! And I also love the theme song !
Perhaps, the show failed to gain proper viewership because it was in syndication at that time. Many shows that take that route have difficulty establishing an audience because they are on at many different times in local markets.
An interesting bit of trivia: Both 'Father' and 'Days' were spun off from original episodes on Love, American Style, and both included Tom Bosley in a paternal role.
There was another cartoon that aired about the same time as WTYFGH that was very similar to it. There was a dad and mom, an overweight daughter, a slacker son, and a younger son, but they were all HIPPIES, all the time.
I am not referring to the episode of WTYFGH called "The Hippie" (where Chet brings home a hippie friend who won't leave, and the dad dresses up like a hippie and pretends to quit his job to get rid of him). In the cartoon I'm remembering, all of the characters in the family were dressed like hippies all the time.
I just got the first season of WTYFGH on DVD and have not seen all the episodes yet. So, it is possible that there is an episode where the whole family dressed up like hippies. Or, was there really another cartoon that was very similar to this one, only with a family of hippies?
I was only 7 years old when this show came out, so my memories are spotty. I remember WTYFGH in concept, but as I am watching the episodes, nothing seems familiar. So, I could have dreamed up this other show.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
There was a Saturday morning cartoon called The Barkleys that aired around the same time that also got its inspiration from All In The Family. The big difference was they were a family of dogs.
Back in the days when we only had three channels, this was on at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evenings. It was a great show, and I never missed it. Glad to see it's finally on DVD.
when I found out that this show was on TeleToon Retro I was so excited. The last time I saw this show was 20 years ago.
I can remember one episode where the next door neighbor was spouting his typical paranoid American rhetoric and the father said to him something like, "when you were a kid you were abducted by aliens and brainwashed and it (his brain) shrunk." That would explain why he's such a dough-head.
Man, I hope I see that episode again now that the show's back on T.V.
I remember watching reruns of this show on Cartoon Network! (back when CN played real cartoons)I barely even remember what it was about, only a little of the opening song.
