Request "Sixth Sense" DVD box-set from Universal...

Hi, guys,

http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/html/contact_us/contact_form.cgi?email_id=10

Above is the "Home Video and DVD" e-mail/contact page for Universal Studios who happen to own "The Sixth Sense" series, and if enough of us contact them to let them know this show has fans then, who knows, maybe they'll release it on DVD.

It can't hurt.

I just sent my email. I've been dying to see this series for years (some of my fondest memories of being scared as a kid ), and hope that one day I'll be surprised to see it sitting on a shelf at my local video store. Thanks for posting the link!

So much time and so little to see...
Wait a minute~Strike that~Reverse it. Thank you.

Same here, "The Sixth Sense" was one of my all time favorites to, right along with "Night Gallery." In fact, the reason I came here was because I just recently saw Gary Collins in an infomercial and I've always associated him with the "Sixth Sense" television show.

This show brings back some memories. When I watched it, circa 1978, the show was in syndication and was shown right a long with "The Twilight Zone" and "Night Gallery." Generally they were all shown late Friday or Saturday night.

I could have swore there were more than just 7 episodes though, I thought it ran for several seasons before it taken off the air due to low ratings, ala "Don Kershner's Rock Concert" style.

reply

I sent one too.

I too thank you for the link and have contacted them. For some reason this show has remained one of the few specific tv-show memories from my childhood. I don't really remember it - hence why I'd love to see it again - but my memory of my memory of it has haunted me. Whenever I have one of those "do you remember" discussions this is always my first thought. Alley

reply

I loved this show also.

Better late than never. I have been wanting to find some information on this series for sometime. I don't have any idea if you'll visit this site again any time soon, but I'm going to post the question anyway. I have been trying to remember something regarding this show. In the opening of each show it showed some kind of statute, monument or something and it had, I believe, a verse from the Bible on it. Do you recall what it was or from what book of the Bible it came? Thanks.

reply

I just saw the blooeyedgal´s request about the verse from the Bible that appears at the opening of each show. If you remember -I haven´t forgotten it since almost 30 years ago- the cite was taken from Joel, Chapter 3, vers. 1.

"Then afterward I will pour out my spirit upon all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions".

Greetings,

cie-1

reply

Great cie-1 thank you. I was too young when this show aired to remember almost anything about it at all although I do know that I loved the credit seqauence but all I seem to remember i a tree that was somehow ... something. No idea.

reply

The opening sequence you're referring to was a bronze plaque at the entrance to the parapsychology department. The Bible verse was Joel 2:28 ..your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. Interestingly, the same plaque was used in a subsequent episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Hey Michael,

Thanks for the link, I've sent in my request as well. I also suggested that if releasing it on DVD isn't cost effective, that they could make the episodes available to download from their website for a fee. Worth a try!

reply

Yeah, thanks for the link. I just sent an email to Universal asking about it.

& I also associate Gary Collins w/ The Sixth Sense series. I thought that it was a spinoff from The Night Gallery, but it doesn't sound like it...who knows?

reply

I just sent an email requesting the release of this on DVD, too. Thanks for the link! Hopefully Universal will listen to us!

Hi,
I also grew up watching the "Sixth Sense" series.
Hope there are enough of us that contact Universal Studios
to help get it out. Thanks to everybody

I sent my request.

Perhaps the new Chiller Channer on Direct TV will show the series eventually. I just watched the first show which was originally shown on Night Gallery. The chiller channel is a new Channel so maybe it will eventually catch up. They're showing all of the Night Gallery shows, Hitchcock, The Friday the 13th series, tales from the crypt etc.
All we can do is hope.

Did it. Paraphrasing the response, I got "Thanks for your suggestion. Don't hold your breath."
And now I understand why there will always be a market for bootleg videos. That's where I will be shopping, anyway.

Here's the cut-and-paste form response I got from Universal, and my follow up.

Thank you for contacting Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

No plans have been announced for the DVD release of the "Sixth Sense" television series. A multitude of factors, including contractual issues, influence the timing and content of our DVD releases. Unfortunately, no further information is available at this time.

My follow up:

Thank you for taking a moment to review my query.

It is easy to understand the vague "multitude of factors" alluded to in your department's response to my note.

I feel certain that, given such a multitude, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will understand why bootleggers continue to be a presence in the DVD marketplace.

It's worth mentioning that consumers (like myself) who ordinarily are interested only in the purchase of legitimate releases will, indeed, continue to enjoy Universal products, but will be doing it more frequntly via the services of private individuals not related to Universal.

Bootleggers are willing and ready to supply consumer demand, and often, the product they supply is indistiguishable in quality from so many that Universal has brought to market in recent years.

On a separate, but related note, I would like to learn of the status for Season 2 of "McMillan & Wife", a title I am discovering for the first time, and which I am enjoying immensely.

Will there be a further releases, or will I be shopping bootleggers for those as well?

Thanks-that is great information. I know some of the Sixth Sense episodes are listed as being on the Night Gallery Season 1 DVD. I am not sure though if they are full 1 hour episodes or if they are edited 1/2 hour versions.

If you get the RTV channel they air Night Gallery every week night at 12:30 am cental time & lately they have been all of the edited Sixth Sense episodes. Also every Saturday they have McMillian & Wife on at 5:00pm central. I am just discovering that show too and loving it. I wish Chiller would start showing the full 1 hour Sixth Sense episodes again, since the edited Night Gallery versions are not that enjoyable to watch.
