The child that died

The child who ate herself to death on porridge. The grains in the stomach had been twice as large so the stomach burst. Could they not just make her vomit, and solved it that way?

I've wondered about that too. Why not stick a finger down her throat?

The first time I saw this film, I thought they had used some of the porridge to put rat poison in and that's why she died. I guess I must have misunderstood or misread the subtitles, because in the dubbed version that I just watched, the older woman does say the grains had swelled up. So now I am with you, wondering why vomiting wouldn't have helped her.

It was too late by the time they found her. The porridge had progressed into her intestines and begun to do their harm. While it's common to vomit up what has progressed into the duodenum and the ileum I'm not sure it's possible through sticking fingers down the throat - it seems logical that it would only make you throw up what's currently in your stomach. Even if it could be done, the intestines had already been damaged by the time the pains began so there was nothing to be done.

I, by no means, am a porridge expert but I was confused about that scene. The woman who came to see her said they grew. I'm not sure how they could grow inside her body. I think it would have been better if she had died of a pneumonia or something.
