In another odd sort of way, was this film also attempting to say something about...

... besides all that is shown here...

How there are no real heroes and villains in life and no mere good guys and bad guys, that all humans have a dark side to them and especially men more so, that we don't all correctly think logically and how we should, that there are certain shades of grey in life even in the most immoral of situations as well as complex questions regarding relationships, sexuality, people's property, self defence, mental illness etc etc etc.

Cheers.

(Of course, this does not mean even remotely that certain acts themselves should be excused at all or that good and evil don't at all exist - they do, but just wondering...)

Yes, the film is far too sophisticated for binary good/bad characterisation. It’s really about rubbing your nose man’s ultimate animal self, which lies beneath the veneer of civilisation we wallow in.
