For a black magic occultist, the mother was very moral. There’s no indication that she practiced in anything evil except for the summoning of the butler to take care of her son. She WAS the one who made the ultimate sacrifice to stop her son when she saw that HE was truly evil. Even the price she’d have to pay didn’t stop her. Heck, she was the best person in this film.
