The ending ruined the film

I was having a great time watching this all the way up to about the last 15 mins then it just turned stupid which is a shame.

I disagree. Everything had to come to a head somehow & doing it in a way that showed hope for the future of the human race was the right way to do it

Neville had a good run.

I would have liked Neville to kick some more zombie butt, but other than that I quite liked the ending. Especially the very last scene.

And, he will be remembered fondly by the generation of hippies that follow.

The only thing that bothered me was the blue jumpsuit and captains hat he was wearing. I'm mean really, camo and gear up Chuck!!! LOL.

Why would a doctor, even one in the military, wear camo?

reply

Why would he wear a nylon blue jumpsuit (or as Dr Venture would say a "speedsuit")?
Military doctors do wear camo, especially in the field like in the Outbreak

This post was actually meant for the person you responded to. Camo was not big back in the late 60's and early 70's. That suit he had also appears to be a military style airforce uniform. I don't know how old some of you are, but too young to remember digital camo hasn't been around since 1776.
The cap was also part of his uniform. The whole point is he was a military person sticking to traditions he learned, and the point of him being this way was to show the divide between himself and the family.

He could have worn anything, but he still went with the ideals taught by modern society, which was dress for a purpose. Same with getting dressed up for dinner.

He was wearing a tan jumpsuit when the helicopter crashed, and same officer's cover (hat).

He was wearing the same blue jumpsuit shortly before then end, right before Richie was healed. He has his lab coat over it.

Every person that served can be called a veteran, but not every veteran can be called a Marine.

That would explain the blue jumpsuit. Camouflage wasn't worn by the military in the early 1970s, just olive drab. Only the CIA wore special tiger stripe camo back then.

I thought the ending made the whole movie; that final freeze frame is simply priceless!

the end was a hard blow considering haw much Neville was ready to leave with Lisa and the kids, but it is sadly with some reasons he dies at the end (IMO the best end would be if we knew Lisa was pregnant with his kid) .

The ending didn't seem all that hopeful for Dutch and the others when you think about it. Neville seemed oddly optimistic that Dutch could synthesize a vaccine from Neville's blood even though we already knew that Dutch was just a grad student and lacked Neville's expertise. That and the fact that he lacked basic equipment, or even a way of refrigerating the jar containing Neville's blood before it spoiled. Add in that Matthias and his Family were still at large and it seems that Dutch et al would face some major problems rebuilding the world.

If the blood hasn't been out for too long it will still be ok. But aside from that, was there enough of the blood for Lisa? It looked like Neville donated blood for Richie several times. There was what, one pint of his blood for Lisa? I'm not a virologist, but I would think she would need more blood or he would need more pure samples if he was going to create a vaccine. I would hope that Dutch would go to the nearest hospital or blood bank for the supplies he needed. If that stupid Richie hadn't ruined all their plans they could have used his blood. Their idea to go to some deserted "mountain nobody built any blood freeways to" was kinda weak seeing as how they were traveling with limited supplies (in that small jeep they had, what 8 people?)

The only thing that was bad with the ending was how handy and what a excellent shot Matthias was with a spear. In the immortal words of Phil Donohue, " I mean come on!". I don't believe any of the Zulu tribe could have made that throw.
