Timothy Carey is the only good thing in this movie
This movie was like a pen that can't write: POINTLESS.
The only good scene is when Timothy Carey is rambling inside the diner.
I beg to differ. Val Avery's rant in the Restaurant was hilarous. The whole movie was offbeat and odd but hey I loved it. You don't see many movies like these anymore.

There was nothing redeeming in this whole movie. Timothy Carey wasn't any good either. How was the rant in the restaurant "hilarious"??? If you had a crazy man demanding to buy you lunch and then start screaming at you for no reason, I doubt you'd find it any bit funny. Being called a whore as you try to get away from the crazy guy is not funny. A guy demanding you get in his truck and honking the horn as you try to get away as he follows is not funny.
Stalking women is not funny. Slapping women around is not funny. Excusing the violence by saying you're jealous is not funny. Beating up a jerk and then blaming the woman is not chivalrous or funny. Since when has "offbeat" become synonymous with violence towards women? I cannot believe Gena Rowlands - or any woman - puts up with this garbage. Ask to be treated with respect and get screamed at in return. Yeah...really romantic.
I could tell right from the beginning that the script was written by a drunk. Drunks are full of themselves and want the world to feel sorry for them. They try to play it off that they're fun and crazy, but they're just irresponsible jerks who can't handle real life. Any woman involved with a drunk is berated for acting like she's too good for the pathetic drunk. Wonder how much of the abuse portrayed in the film was Rowlands and Cassavetes in real life. How often did she get slapped around and think it was normal?
Who wants to watch crap like this other than drunk misogynists?
