Why does Sal park the Lincoln?

I have never understood why Sal, who was to provide the cash for the drugs picks up the Lincoln from the parking garage and then parks it on the street. I thought Devereaux had the car, so why wouldn't he or Charnier be the one to drop off the car? And why would they leave it abandoned rather than take it straight to the place where the exchange would be made?

Sal didn't KNOW the drugs were inside the car, probably the same could be said for Devereaux. Only Charnier knew they were in the rocker panels. Devereaux suspected after being asked for a favor from Charnier. Charnier didn't want to be anywhere NEAR that car. Which is why near the end as he is driving you see him acting nervous.
