Anyone else find the tribute to SFPD officers in the opening, offensive?

Possibly offensive?

I mean Dirty Harry is not based on a true story or anything, and it is in fact, sort of a going against the justice system movie of sorts. So I don't think it's the proper movie, to do a tribute to officers who gave their lives in the opening.

I mean imagine if in a movie like Death Wish for example, they opened with a tribute, naming several Americans who's family members had been murdered or raped.

It would just feel kind of wrong, for a movie, that is all about getting revenge on the crooks, wouldn't it possibly?

What do you think?

reply

Not at all. It may be a work of fiction but can still honor their memory.

No!

reply

No.

Also, the plotline was partially inspired by the then-current 'Zodiac' murders in northern California.

I saw the movie when it first came out. From then until now it never entered my mind that this was offensive until I saw this post.

The movie fit the mood of the time. It seemed like everyday you'd read in a newspaper where some criminal who had committed a terrible crime was released on a technicality. A huge crime wave was happening all across the country and the public was getting tired of it.

No, ya candy ass.

Never saw that part before on network tv. Usually cut. Watching now the uncut version on HBO and see the tribute. It is ok by me.

Never felt that way for a second. In fact, I thought the fade in from that to the sniper rifle barrel pointing at the camera shows the audience just a sample of what kind of people the ones who died were facing every day.

reply

No No and Hell No!

reply

Not offensive at all.
