Never should be remade

I am not a fan of re-makes anyway, but I could never imagine anyone re-making this particular film as the casting was perfect. It would have been nice if Jennie Linden and Glenda Jackson has made 'The Rainbow' when they were younger. The later Ken Russel film adaptation of 'The Rainbow' was alright, but the character of Ursula (and Gudrun) were so different.

I can't agree with you. The actresses are alright, but I dont like the actor who played Gerald. He is so different from Gerald described in the book and somewhat changed the sensations about this charater.

Gerald should have been casted to the description of the Gerald in the book and so should Gudrun been casted 2 look like the book described her. It is not only confusing but distracting.

I thought that one of the key features of Lawrence's work was his descriptions of the physicality of the characters, Gerald in particular. This, in my opinion, detracted from the film, as I thought the physical nature of the characters was integral to my involvement in the book. I really thought it was something Lawrence emphasised, and thus should have been reflected in the film. But other than this I think it's a brilliant adaptation.

Ooh, no, totally agree, just it really bothered me that Gerald, despite Lawrence making numerous references to his fair appearence/hair, was played by an actor with black hair and an almost swarthy appearence. Just bugged me, as that was one of the strongest things in the book for me, I thought Lawrence really emphasised it.

Film was otherwise an excellent adaptation.
