1. Interesting that the rich kids thought charity was horrid 100 years later its all we can find the world over.

2. How come the trees moved and yet the ground didnt?

playing on rail tracks??? om my i got arrested as a child for doing that,

They don't think Charity is 'horrid', they just know that for Perks it would be a point of pride - he would feel like everyone in town thought he was poor and unable to provide for his family. This is exactly what happens. I don't know what you mean by 'it's all we can find the world over'.

The ground did move, which caused the roots of the trees to come loose and slide down the hill. The ground just went slower.

Interestingly, author E. Nesbit was accused of neglecting her own kids, and one of the complaints was that they played on railway lines. Just interesting that she should choose to write about children fascinated with the railway.
