Who would be perfect in a Myra Breckinridge remake?

I say Angelina Jolie would be perfect in this role.

reply

first off, a remake wouldn't work today...

secondly, Jolie couldn't pull off that roll to save her life...

reply

...as if Raquel Welch did SUCH a good job? lol If they used her (Jolie), they could use her brother as Myron. It'd be perfect.

reply

She did a brilliant job actually.

reply

I actually think the story would totally work today (except perhaps for the subplot of obsession with old movies because sadly not much of the general public cares about classic Hollywood films today). I watched the DVD and was amazed how much it seems like a current movie! You just didn't have blue comedies back then that's why it was rated X people were so shocked but today you hear jokes on this level in PG films!!

If I were a casting director I would go with...

Myra ANGELINE JOLIE
Uncle Buck JON VOIGHT
Letitia DOLLY PARTON
Mary Ann JESSICA SIMPSON
Rusty JESSE METCALFE
Myron HUGH GRANT

reply

I love those ideas, and have to add an idea of my own to the cast.

Surgeon: DAVID CARRADINE
Tarantino could really do this well, and he'd pack a ton of other film references into it, which would convey the spirit of the original, but actually be a good movie altogether.

reply

Holy *beep* I think you might actually be right on this one! I'm not even joking--no *beep* If ANYONE could, it would HAVE to be Tarantino--but otherwise, I think this should stay in the gutter. But, that's a great observation I never even considered!

I'd cast Cameron Diaz as Myra- she has more of the physique required to play an ex-male *lol*, plus she would be perfect for doing the kind of comedy acting needed.

reply

Oh man!!! Jolie playing opposite Voight... you are one twisted SOB... Now, I would pay full price to see that remake!!!

reply

Myra - Angelina Jolie
Uncle Buck - Hugh Hefner
Letitia - Dolly Parton
Mary Ann - Charlize Theron
Rusty - Jesse Metcalfe
Myron - James Haven Voight

reply

Myra PAMELA ANDERSON
Uncle Buck GENE HACKMAN
Leticia DOLLY PARTON
Mary Ann LINDSAY LOHAN
Rusty PAUL WALKER
Myron KEVIN SPACEY

You're probably right, but if a remake gets made today, the definition of "classic" films gets moved up alongside it so that Star Wars and ET and Pulp Fiction and [fill in the blank] become the "classic film" clips interspersed with the live action. Then the actors who were in those films and who are still alive can sue to be removed from the remake just as it happened for MB. Although, realistically, the legal and financial red tape I suspect would be required for such an effort would render the effort not feasible.

The choices you've picked aren't that bad (except for Cameron Diaz - LOL), but I honestly wouldn't be interested in seeing a remake of this movie. I'm tired of the current remake craze, because it shows a remarkable lack of originality on the part of the directors/producers who are making films nowadays.

Besides, taking topics out-of-time destroys the integrity of the films sometimes. What was shocking in that decade is often not that shocking in this one, meaning that the person doing the remake has to "add" a bunch of stuff to raise the "shock" level, which in turn, changes the whole point of the movie.

If/when I want to see Myra Breckinridge, I'll just watch the original.

It's the cast that makes "Myra Brenckinridge" interesting. Raquel made the role all her own and where else can you see John Huston, Mae West, Farrah Fawcett and Rex Reed in one movie?

But if a remake had to be made, I'd settle with Johnny Depp doing the Myron/Myra roles, Elizabeth Taylor as Leticia, Burt Reynolds as Uncle Buck, and Paris Hilton in the role played by Farrah Fawcett.

Good point about the cast, markedjuan. It's true, that is an eccentric choice of actors/actresses. I also agree with your choice of Burt Reynolds as "Uncle Buck". He'd be pefect in that role. :)

I don't know about the others, though. I'll have to give it some thought.

I've always thought that Hilary Swank looks like Matt Damon in drag, so why not cast them as Myra and Myron, respectively? <lol>

reply

Just a twisted little thought, but how about Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal as Myra and Myron respectively?
But I've gotta say the best suggestion here is Burt Reynolds as Uncle Buck- inspired!!!

reply

Ooooh, htoooh1969, what a great idea! I'd love to see Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal as Myra and Myron respectively. I'm sure a talented make-up person could even make them look very alike. So at times you aren't sure if you are looking at the brother or sister. As long as Maggie's breasts are disguised.

>>Oh, well that's different. Nevermind!<<

reply

Why, thank you, Devans00! I do like your idea about the make up to bring them closer together in appearence.

And I don't know about everyone else bitching and bashing this film- I loved it. I dug the film, the performances, the book, hell, even the book's sequal, Myron. You know, I really ought to watch this film again...

*beep* u all this role belonged to Candy Darling

for today i think Uma Thurman would do the job...better than raquel

reply

Bless you, Angella,

You're right about Candy.

reply

Jolie doesn't have anywhere near the ability to pull off as complex a character as Myra.

reply

If any film should be remade, it should be this one and Jolie has the right amount of kinky wickedness for the role. Also, whoever it was that said Jolie's reallife brother should play Myron with Jon Voight as Uncle Buck, has an admirably twisted imagnation.

MYRA BRECKENRIDGE - ANGELINA JOLIE
LETICIA VAN ALLEN - KIM CATRALL
MARY ANN PRINGLE - ANNA FARIS
MYRON - RON LIVINGSTON
BUCK LONER - JACK NICHOLSON
RUSTY GODOWSKI - RYAN REYNOLDS

reply

this film is a straight out comedy

Myra Breckinridge - Nicole Kidman
Leticia - Liza Minnelli
Mary Ann - Paris Hilton
Myron - Rupert Everett
Buck Loner - Tommy Lee Jones
Rusty - Zach Braff

reply

But Vidal had always wanted a man to play Myra/Myron.

So I'm sticking with my choices:

Myra/Myron -- Johnny Depp
Leticia -- Joan Collins
Buck Loner Burt Reynolds

As for Mary Ann and Rusty, any beautiful, undiscovered young actor and actress can play them because no name star would ever want to take those parts!

reply

If this was to come out say in 2012...

Then Jordana Brewster or Eliza Dukshu as Myra
John Waters as Uncle Buck
Madonna as Leticia
This talented, young actor I know named Kevin, who's 15 now but will be perfect for the role in about 2012, as Rusty.
One of the Disney Channel stars except Vannesa(No offense but it wouldn't be as edgy to have the girl who posted nude in a movie like this) as Mary Ann
