If there was a new Dark Shadows movie...

I'd like to hear some suggestions from everyone on who you think would make a good Barnabas. I've heard Johnny Depp suggested a few times. :)

I don't have anyone in mind specifically, but I think it should someone who, like Johnathan Frid, can be handsom and charming and at the same time, frightening and creepy.

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Not fond of remakes, and it sounds like the Burton movie was a disaster (didn't bother to see it), but I think Daniel Craig could have done the role of Barnabas justice. He vaguely resembles Frid and has the gravitas that Depp totally lacks. As soon as I saw photos of Depp in the whiteface makeup, and then found out it was a parody, I lost all interest. How stupid are movie company executives, anyway? Take a show with a huge built-in fanbase and produce a remake guaranteed to alienate them. So then who was this movie aimed at? Plus, it's relative failure ensures that a serious version will never happen (not that I'm advocating for one). Same with Mars Attacks, could have made a terrific super scary horror/SF film if they'd stayed true to the concept of the trading cards, but they turned it into a farce, and a not particularly funny one, at that.

What was really disappointing to me was that both Depp and Burton were on record as being "big fans" of the original show. I thought they would have treated their source material with more respect.

When the movie started bombing, Burton made some lame excuse about wanting to appeal to a "wider audience" but all he did was alienate all the fans who could have made the movie a huge success, to the point of even rebooting the whole series ala STAR TREK or MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE.

As it is, Depp and Burton have just about killed it - driven a stake through the heart and soul of DARK SHADOWS. The movie stunk and was an affront to anyone who ever loved the show.

I agree. I liked the new movie but choose to see it as a separate feature completely unrelated to the original series. That's the only way I can like it. I think so many people left the theater with a sour taste in their mouth that we have lost hope of seeing another Dark Shadows related movie or show for many years. But if they were to make another, I would maybe make a serious film out of the Quentin Collins storyline. The Woman In Black made a huge amount of money just months before the Dark Shadows remake was released, so I think there was a market for Gothic horror then and there still could be. It's just a shame Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and the others couldn't see that.

Agreed. I was disgusted by the film. Worse, I tried to turn my daughter onto the series, after she saw the new film, and because of the new film, she said couldn't get into it.

the Tim Burton film was so horrible, I wonder is this film series will ever be resurrected. The sad irony is that supposedly Tim and Johnny were both fans of the original series. How they managed to bastardize the whole series while creating a totally crappy movie is one of the great mysteries in cinematic history.

I wish that one day, a REAL FAN of the series, will remake the film and do it the justice it deserves. It is NOT a comedy!!!
