2021: Cable TV bleeps out curses and covers up nudity for a 1969 movie

Does it make sense? Originally people got cable so things wouldn't be cut out as well as no commercials. Now 52 years after this film was made we STILL see the good parts cut out on cable TV?! All I can think of is we're in an alternate universe of idiocy!
