Pretentious Bore!

Boy, what an overrated film. Can anyone think of a more pretentious film than this? Beautiful images do not constitute a movie.

This is an absolute masterpiece. Ravishingly beautiful to look at and a compelling story of a pathetic individual desperate to please a totalitarian regime. Bertolucci's finest work, without question, and Storaro's camerawork is as inspired as it is in Apocalypse Now.

EDIT: i didn't finish watching it the first time, because i got bored

watched the part i missed, and saw it Was in color; interesting😱

considering this was made in 1970, it wasn't bad😋
[will have to watch it again, now]

.
this might have held more of my attention "visually"

if it had been in Color! 😨

It saddens and sickens me how many easily bored dimwits populate IMDB. What were you thinking when you say down to this film? That you could handle something artistically motivated? That you're smart enough to comprehend a movie that isn't aimed at teens? You were clearly wrong on both counts. Way to label a film "pretentious" solely because you're too dense to fathom it, which is particularly odd considering how straightforward and kinetic the narrative is. The movie didn't fail you, you failed the movie.

I agree: pretentious, stiff and boring.
