Dream Cast for a remake

Just had a quick think about who they could cast if they were making this film today and have come up with the following:

Daniel Craig - Major Smith
Micheal Fassbender - Lt Shaffer
Rosamund Pike - Mary Elson
Tom Wilkinson - Col Turner
Ciran Hinds - Admiral Rowland
Nicolai Walder Coster - Christensen
August Diel - Major Van Harpen
Alexandra Maria Lara - Heidi
Ron Livingstone - Carnaby/Cartwright Jones
Sebastian Koch - Col Krammer
Christen Berkel - General Rosemayer
James Frain - Berkeley
Tobias Menzies - Thomas
Stepehen Graham - Macpherson

Other's thoughts Welcome

If you think about Tarrantinos "Inglorious Basterds"...some scenes could be used in WED..Heidi's beer hall scene comes to mind.I think Tarrantino has mentioned being influenced by WED and other WW2 films..The cast from Inglorious B's could be used for sure...

This is going to set off another CIRCLE JERK of debate.

I seen the title to your thread and immediately thought of Daniel Craig before even opening the thread! You've put a lot of thought and effort into this so I'm not going to poo-poo it all with other names. Except I will say my other immediate thought was Jeremy Renner for Clint's role.

Although I still think Fassbender would be good I have to say I think Renner is a very good call for the role of Shaffer.

I'd like to see Clint Eastwood in a cameo playing the commander who sends them on their mission. It could be a combination OSS and British intelligence mission since they are after all supposedly rescuing an American general.

Come on, Christopher Waltz MUST be in it! Otherwise, your line-up is very good. Watched this last night and immediately thought, "Boy, this is ripe for a remake!"

It's a good story, but stylistically bland and the pace suffers in many places. Too many ext ended shots of setting up dynamite, lowering ropes, climbing walls, etc.

With a modern director and effects, this would be a cracking film.
