Ingmar Bergman's The Hour of the Wolf

I'm amazed how much Petri's movie resembles Bergman's. Both came out in 1968, so it's unlikely one influenced the other. But both are about painters living in isolation, drawn to a mysterious place and experiencing situations that may or may not be supernatural.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

I'd have to rewatch Wolf before forming a strong opinion on the matter, but on premise alone they are similar. I was struck by how Petri's fingerprints (or if not, a distinct collective consciousness) are evident on films such as Dillinger is Dead, The Shining and films by Roeg (Performance; Don't Look Now) and Zulawski (Possession; The Public Woman).

Oh whisky, leave me alone.

I can see some similarities to The shining and I didn't see Bergman's The Hour of the Wolf yet but how can you see similarities to Zulawsky's Possession?

I also can see how this feels like in some aspects, A Quiet Place anticipates House with Laughing Windows. It also feels Bava like in atmosphere and mood(I read that Mario Bava wanted to make an adaptation of the book this movie is based on).

there may be similarities between the two but Hour of the wolf is 100x better than this.
