They were a little harsh on Charlie here

I mean, he came in 2nd place! Pretty damn good.

And what was Lucy bitching about. Charlie never said she could be his agent. I hated her!

Yeah, that is pretty good. That's like winning the silver medal at the Olympics. I guess they wanted him to win and that was it. But in the end, Lucy welcomes him home and everything is okay again.

Plus, I think that they were particularly negative due to the fact that he choked, losing on an easy word ("Beagle"). They interpreted it as him being incapable of winning, even when it was handed to him on a silver platter. Still, a pretty harsh assessment, but I think that had something to do with the intensity of their reactions.

There are some people who will not settle for anything less than the top spot.

My sister's BF after high school was Indian, and in one competition, he came in 2nd. That wasn't good enough for his parents, and his Mom chewed him out on that one.

"Thanks, guys." "So long, partner."

To quote Bender from Futurama:

Second place? That's a fancy word for losing!

Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, she is the one named Sailor Moon

You know how it goes. Everyone likes a winner; no one likes a loser.

The higher you are put on a pedestal the more people want to knock you off it!!!
