I haven't seen this movie, but my mother has. She says it is very good. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy it for her. I have looked everywhere for it.

You can find the film on Ebay from time to time, but it's usually $20 or so once bidding is complete, and it's VHS. I would LOVE to see this, I am a huge Sandy Dennis Fan. Good luck!

DOO...spread me up another one of them baloney sandwiches!!

Well, I'm very (too) late with this reply. I saw the movie and was delighted. Magnificent little masterpiece in every way.
Later I read the book, which was in my opinion great (and very lucky) choice.
TOGETHER they're just GREAT.
I don't recommend to read the book before watching the movie (not with this one and not with anyone). When reading a book YOU are the director, and your vision is (naturally) different from the one you later see in the cinema. Usually this leads to disappointments.
When you read the book after you saw the movie, you're rewarded with more details (and unfilmable things) and you're vision might become richer.
In this particular case it surely did - for ME. After many many years I still consider this one as the best movie-book companions in my career.
As someone said - this movie was years (decades?) before time, and we all know that D.H. Lawrence was a century before his time.
Enjoy!

This movie was never released in the United States and it's a very rare find if you do find it. A little off the beam.......dark movie about lesbianism. Very interesting, though. Look on ebay or ioffer.com

reply

Incorrect. This movie WAS released in the United States. I saw it here(in the North Carolina) when it first came out.

reply

Same here. I saw it at a drive-in theater in Wisconsin when it first came out.

How do you mean "it was released?" It showed on the Bravo channel at times.....that was it as far as I know. You mean you saw it in a released to video movie? Or that it was released to the theaters? Yes, it was in our American theaters but never has been released in video or dvd. Let me know if you have seen it released anywhere.

reply

I saw it in Costa Mesa, California. The last time I heard, that is in the US.

reply

Yes I saw it in the spring of 1968 at the old Nona Theater in Lafayette, Louisiana with my two good friends Nancy and Jennifer....The film was fantastic. The worst part was when the tree fell on the lover.....

I have just left a review of The Fox. Read it and you will see how much I love this film. I have two favorite films. The Fox is one. I have the book and the film follows it exactly, word for word. I recommend you see the film first, if possible. The photography is breathtaking and the music adds to it's grandeur. I have old VHS copies I've transferred to DVD, but would buy it should it become available as newly released. Great love story. Hope you get to see it, then read the book.

I bought a copy off of ebay a few months ago but I had to pay around $30 for it. Some one caught it on Bravo and recorded it onto some dvds so I have a copy on dvd. Good luck and if you find it, it's a great buy. Sandy Dennis was so underrated!!!

I saw it when it came out(no pun intended!) in 1967. I never read the novella but the movie was just superb. You could have cut the sexual tension with a knife. Sandy Dennis was a phenomenal actress. One of the very best. Her untimely death was a tragedy. She was a very gifted performer and very believable in whatever role she portrayed. She was great at projecting both vulnerability and menace. Quite an accomplishment. Hell of an actress.

I saw it on the Bravo channel here in Canada a few years ago. Excellent, seemingly quiet film with a lot of electricity beneath the surface.

The Fox will be on TCM on June 27th, 2007 as part of their "Screened Out: Gay Images In Film"
