Who else can't stand those 2 kid's voices?

I loved this movie when I was kid. I didn't realize at the time that his(the Dad)story wasn't real. lol Kind of like Dorothy in the flying house, when I realized years later that it was a dream, I was devastated. lol But I just found it on netflix and I was so exited to watch it again until I heard those 2 kids squealing! It was like nails across a chalkboard! I thought for sure it was the little girl who was the highest pitched but no, it was the boy! I don't see how the adults took it! It was kind of a let down. :o( But many things we remember from our childhood isn't as great as we thought they were or remember them to be. I have come to the conclusion that it is best to leave somethings in the past and that way you keep the memories of the innocence of childhood and the wonder of all as bright in your mind as if you just experienced it. When my grandchildren are old enough to not be scared by the old scary dude/child-catcher lol, I'll show them this treasure and see what they think of it. :o)

Realism sucks, but they were, nonetheless, flawlessly talented and attractive children.

Funny thing is the girls really scottish the actress is on youtube talking about the film in a number of vids and has a thick scottish accent

reply

Yes, but she speaks about that. She was cast in the film and when she moved to London to film it - they told her she had to speak in a standard English accent and said that to help her grasp it she should speak in it all the time. Obviously she was filming for months, she then went back to Scotland and everyone commented that she had lost her Scottish accent and was speaking in this posh English voice!

If I was the Baroness I would have looked them in the tower too :)

Compared to the pewling, squealing, dysfunctional, maladjusted urchins that regularly appear in Steven Spielberg films, these kids bothered me not a whit. The actors played their roles well, with finesse and charmingly childish enthusiasm. I wish there were more brother/sister tag teams like this in films today.

Yes, they were shrill and annoying. Had I been in Vulgaria, I'd have told the Child Catcher exactly where to find them.

same here, as a kid I loved this movie and could not really figure out if the vulgaria part was real or not. Never noticed the shrill voices, BUT as an adult, I could hardly stand those kids. As an adult I all of a sudden noticed the baroness with all her hotness as the King tries to kill her, so weird. Maybe as with you, I should have left this movie in my childhood mind. But as an adult, I cheer the baroness locking them up, and a few fantasies about her in her corset :)

Nah they’re too damn sweet and charming to be annoying.
