They should remake this movie...

I haven't seen this film since I was a kid... but I do remember enjoying it...

I think it's a perfect candidate for a solid Disney remake, maybe casting Will Ferrell as Blackbeard. I think some of the more bizarre mundane aspects of Blackbeard interacting with suburban life would be hysterical.

Yay brilliant answer.
My thoughts exactly. See me previous response about Ferrell.
Cant stand the *beep*

Will Ferrell is as funny as a stubbed toe.
They should remake this movie, tho.

reply

Ferrell isn't terrible.... but i cant see him at all as Blackbeard. It would totally destroy the remake.

"Lehmunade! do you see anyone coming?"

"The answer is a lemon.."

reply

No ******* way!!!!!

It's a great movie. Period.
Leave it.

If you want to see it again buy the DVD.

I don't get why people always want to remake good movies. Try remaking films that weren't that great I make them better!

And what's wrong with you, that you think of Will Ferrell when the original had Peter Ustinov playing that role? I mean, nothing against Ferrell, but he and Ustinov absolutely aren't in the same league.

Oh, and my lil sister tells me to throw a frowning smiley at your head.

What is this craze of re-making movies anyway??!! You will be re-making classic actors next !! I say leave it and here's another explanation mark for that !

I have to agree. I can't say that I've liked any recent re-make of any good older movie. Yours, Mine and Ours was just about the biggest joke of a re-make there is. How anyone thought that re-making a movie that originally starred Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda was going to be any good is beyond me. And Lindsey Lohan, the re-make queen, has yet to make a movie worth watching. (I don't know about the latest one she's in, but I've heard if you weren't around for the radio show, you'll be bored with the movie.)

Amen to hsmyly!!!! Remakes are the the spawn of satan!!! I'm sorry, I can't stand remakes of movies. Anyone who watched the old, and new versions of "Cheaper by the Dozen" can tell you, it wasn't the same story ONE BIT!!!! I just can't stand them!!!! Especially the GOOOD originals like Blackbeard. I couldn't see it being remade.

I Agree, But they should remake the book, not this Disneyfied version. I remember reading the book as a boy then seeing the movie & being very disappointed in it. Now before you say " the book is always better then the movie" let me say I realise this, however, other then the idea that Blackbeard's Ghost is brought back, this movie has nothing to do with the book. The Book centers around 2 boys who accidently bring Blackbeard back, as well as the witch Lady Stowecroft, while trying to play a prank on some other kids. As to the casting for this to be the funniest, the ghost needs to be played strait, by a good dramatic actor, not a comic that just runs around and acts like an idiot like Ferrell, Carrey or Myers.

this movie does not need remaking.
it still holds up today.. visually aswell

if it was remade.. i would only hope it didnt go through the hollywood *beep* grinder.

A remake?
Of Blackbeard's Ghost?

WHAT THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY'RE PLAYING AT?!?!?!!!

I will not deny that sometimes (admittedly very few) remake's are better than the originals but look at history, They Lady Vanishes for example that flopped as a remake! I've even heard they plan to remake the original James Bonds! Sean Connery isn't even dead yet! But Blackbeards Ghost is fantastic as it is! Anyone who thinks this should be remade should be lined up against the wall and shot repeatedly!

reply

I am suprised this has not been remade. They made a ton of money with the two "Pirates" films.
I would watch a remake and I am not a huge fan remakes.

please don't remake it!

Haven't you all had enough experience with remakes of Disney Classics to know that most should be avoided like the plague?

Okay, I can see the possibilities in this cast. But why remake something that doesn't need remaking? Granted, it isn't a fantastic film, but it is a classic! If they begin to remake the Godfather then I will receed from my positon, but can anybody give me 1 good reason for a remake? No! This film really shows off Ustinov's acting range. Ustinov is more often cast as a fat coward (Spartacus) or as some historical figure (Quo Vadis) here he gets the chance to be the 'action hero'. If I was going to remake it (far be it for me to fiddle with a classic) this would be my cast

Jim Carrey = Steve Walker
James Purefoy = Blackbeard
Cameron Diaz = Professor Baker
Antonio Banderas(!) = Silky Seymour
Richard Briers = Dean Wheaton

I hate to say it but rather than casting Will Ferrell, why not cast Johnny Depp? He plays a great drunk as Captain Jack Sparrow. Granted perhaps Sparrow has a little too much finesse but if toned down a bit to give more of a rugged drunk, I think Depp could pull it off quite well. It would however seem to be a spinoff of his more famous role in Pirates of the Caribbean.
