Jupiter and beyond the infinite
The greatest 15 minutes in film history.
shareI would have a hard time calling the greatest in film history a sequence that is 100% special effects.
shareWhy? ALL movies are illusion. Why would special effects detract from a film's impact?
The Dumpster gives a whole new meaning to "red" states.
Yes it is all illusion, but I also think one of cinema's strength lies in its link with reality, or what is tangible.

You'll certainly get no argument from me there. One of cinema's greatest strengths is it's ability to visualize things in a unique way not possible in any other medium, one that heightens the emotional experience in a way simple observation of reality can't achieve. But to my mind, this is one of the great strengths of special effects as well.

Yes, I love that scene, one of the greatest.

It's pure art.
shareLoved it, and what it implied. Just a small semantic quibble - how can anything be beyond the infinite?
shareConceptually.
The Dumpster gives a whole new meaning to "red" states.
haha I thought about that too. Kubrick is so calculated and measured with his filmmaking, it's an interesting choice of words. Maybe the only gamble in the movie...

Certainly one of the greatest.
Agreed
