"You Only Live Twice" is the ABSOLUTE WORST Bond movie and it isn't even close... and shouldn't even be a debate. Watch it, again. PLEASE!!!! It is the most ridiculous Bond film ever and Sean mails in his performance too. "You Only Live Twice" had the following ridiculous things:

1. Hollowed out Volcano Lair (this alone vaults it to the top)
2. 6'2", 235 lb Sean Connery trying to pass for Japanese
3. Ninjas that can't fight or climb down ropes!!!
4. Lamest, cardboard-esque Blofeld in Donald Pleasance
5. Flesh eating Pirhanna moat (oh no!)
6. Horrible Screenplay written by the author of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Roald Dahl.

The movie is so bad, Mike Myers used virtually every aspect for his Austin Power COMEDY films of the 1990's/2000's! In fact, Dr. Evil has more depth than Blofeld in "You Only Live Twice"

Of course Connery fanboys are blind to how ridiculous this film is and to speak against it is blasphemy to them. Whatever. I know what I see and it's really, really bad.

How is any of that stuff more ridiculous than most other Bond movies? (invisible cars, Bond flying into space, underwater lairs, shark pools etc.)

Yes, it`s ridiculous. However, shouldn`t you be pointing out some bad things about it once you gonna call it the worst Bond movie?

Besides, on another thread you`re citing TSWLM as your third favourite Bond yet that one isn`t much less fantastic or silly than YOLT. What gives?

This wasn´t even the worst Connery film. Diamonds are forever was. You could also argue that Thunderball was worse than this, man that was a boring movie.

Thunderball was kind of boring. But flying cars in tmwtgg, bond commanding a tiger to sit in octopussy, Roger moore's age in a view to a kill,.

I have to agree with the OP I didn't like this movie at all. OHMSS was much much better.

You have no taste.

It's my favorite, and it was one of the most aired in the 70s and 80s on network television because people loved it. It was big, it was located in an exotic country with hot Japanese babes, and had action and what was considered high-tech gadgets in the film.

The production values are well above and beyond Dr. No, and put From Russia with Love to shame. And the Ninja assault was fantastic!

What are you, depressed or something? Go watch what you want, and then tell us how great THAT movie is. Stop killing electrons with your defeatists posts.

Ok, so there's some silliness going on, but I still think it's one thrilling spectacle and maybe the most exciting Bond film. Hell, it's probably my favorite.

I have to say that YOLT began the trend of the period where the Bond movies began to get sloppy in their execution which did not really get back on track until The Spy Who Loved Me. The movies did not have the feel of a spy thriller but more of an action adventure.

I don't think any Bond film is really sloppy in execution - obviously, lots of time, resources and care went into filming. Now, sloppy in conception... that's a different matter.

It's the best looking Bond film at least. For the Connery movies at least. Freddie Young was a great cinematographer.

I agree, YOLT is one of the weaker entries amongst the earlier Bond. It reminds me of most modern day summer blockbuster... special effects tend to be outstanding and lacking in every other aesthetic. You can tell Connery is visibly growing tired of the character, the series, and the press as well. Most of the (non-recurring) supporting characters are forgettable, except for Pleasance's Blofeld. The plot is little ridiculous, even for a Bond

Dr. No is an atmospheric, unpretentious introduction; From Russia with Love may be one of the greatest espionage films ever; Goldfinger is the quintessential Bond film and is universally considered an all-time great film; Thunderball is the first grandiose Bond production; On Her Majesty's Secret remains the most controversial after nearly 40 years and is arguably the greatest film in the series. You Only Live Twice is simply a spectacle with James Bond as its main character, yet that is the common pace of the series. The films that avert such formula tend to stand out from the crowd.

Most Bond films, even the weaker entries tend to be good on their own merit, and its definitely not to tear a film to pieces...it's simply a matter of a tight race.
