Why do they have English speaking people dubbing over actors already speaking English in this movie?

I was wondering the same thing.

What's the "Reason" for dubbing?

I've never been able to find an answer to that. Julie Bennett did the voice over for Linda Miller. She's credited with a lot of voice over cartoon work over the years. I believe Linda Miller was only 18 when she made this. Maybe she didn't have good projection? No disrespect to Julie Bennett, but her voice is too high for this film.

What's the "Reason" for dubbing?

Sometimes the director just doesn't think the voice matches the actor. Andie MacDowell's voice (her first movie) was dubbed by Glenn Close in Greystoke because her southern accent was too strong.

The English-speaking actors are dubbed to give the flm a uniform sound design. Switching from the on-set audio to the dubbed audio would give it a lop-sided feel.

Rhodes Reason was American, so he was able to come into the studio to loop his performance. Linda MIller and the others lived in Japan, so it was easier to have someone else to dub them.

Even though this movie is a kind of US-Japan co-production,
it's basically a Japanese movie made for Japanese market.

In the original version,
English-speaking actors were dubbed by Japanese actors.

That's what the American distributors got.
So they need to dubb them all.

Not sure. But Linda Miller's dubbing always made me want to stick needles in my ears!! Man that was the most GRATING voice ever.

No question. Julie Bennett was a middle-aged woman dubbing a 20 year old and the effect is ridiculous.

What idiot though added to the imdb list that David De Keyser, an English actor, dubs Rhoades Reason in the US version? Reason looped his own dialogue.
