Why John Lenon hated Disney so much?

It is said that at the beginning Beatles was asked to sing in this film but John Lenon said: "It's impossible for the Beatles to sing the damn Micky Mouse". Anyway why did John Lenon hate Disney so much?

We are all globe villagers.

I'm certain I saw a picture of John Lennon with his son Julian (from his first marriage) at Disneyland.

reply

"Source?"

It's in the book The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics, although he accidentally says Fantasia and Cinderella, other Beatles books and interviews with Lennon say Snow White.

Um, I was talking to the OP.

My bad. I thought that reply was to me.

actually "do you want to know a secret was written and sang by george harrison...i highly doubt it was about snow white

reply

Philip Norman's book - "Shout" suggests George based "Do You Want To Know A Secret" on something Jiminy Cricket says in Pinnochio, but I've see that film dozens of times and haven't heard him say it.
If you want it...I know where to get it.

reply

How can George have based "Do you want to know a secret" on anything when he didnt write it. Lennon wrote it and George sung it.

reply

I think it was John Lennon, indeed. I remember a quote in a biography of him that his mother, Julia, liked that song from Snow White. Then when Lennon was a kid, she would sing to him, 'Do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell?' And as far as I know, that was where he got the idea.

reply

Interesting. I never knew that was the inspiration.

didn't this film base those british vultures on the beatles? bear in mind this film came out at the height of beatlemania, so it must be true in my mind,

As far as i know that is the answer. Disney didn't want them to supply any songs for the film, he wanted them to be the voices of the vultures.

reply

That's what I thought. I thought it must have been either the Beatles or the Rolling Stones.

“There’s no way The Beatles are gonna sing for Mickey *beep* Mouse. You can tell Walt Disney to *beep* off. Tell him to get Elvis off his fat arse, he’s into making crap *beep* movies.”

Lmao! That was hillarious!

Maybe because Disneyland once refused to let fellow long-haired hipsters into the park?

Now I have three sequels. Ho ho ho.

Also Disney himself was fiercely anti-communtist.

Why John Lenon hated Disney so much?
because Mickey Mouse friggin' shot him, go figure!

reply

I think the real answer is that he didn't really hate Disney, but this was just after their own cartoon series had been made, and was terrible. This is also why they refused to have anything to do with "Yellow Submarine" (until after they saw it, liked it, and agreed to add their little scene at the end). I firmly believe under the circumstances of when it was that John would have said similar who ever was making this film.

reply

I agree with you. John could be quite disagreeable. It probably had more to do with commercialism or something.

It's funny because I had never thought of the Beatles when I watched this as a kid. It makes sense now. I re-watched it today for the first time in years. Still can sing the tunes!

reply

I thought just british rock stars and not just THE BEATLES.
This movie didn't need them.
I didn't like the way the birds were drawn.

reply

One of the British vultures kind of sounded like Ringo.

reply

I agree with Laurence01. I also suppose that John Lennon's resentment against animation from the Saturday morning series caused him to pressure the other Fabs into not doing the voices for Yellow Submarine. Had they done their own voices, it would've been more awesome.

reply

That quote really makes no sense.

But John was a rather hateful person in general and thought way too highly of his arrogant self.

If you want to sleep in a coffin, it would be all right.

reply

I asked the same question on Yahoo Answers. I didn't really get any good reasons.

"There is no escape, John!"
