the alligators

Did they use real alligators in this movie? There are times where they seem to be walking quite realistically. It's hard to say. Anyone got any answers on this?

Yes, the aligators are in fact real...originally they used audio animatronic aligators (Like on the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland--only more complex.). Walt saw the test footage with the robotic reptiles, and deemed them "too phony" And so--the real thing was used. I hope that's helpful.

Thanks, i wondered about that too, just never enough to ask i guess. I think its great that they changed them to real alligators because it helps the film be so great. if they didn't change it, it probably wouldn't be one of my favorite movies. so glad they did. Thanks again for the answerto the question i didn't even ask.

but of course. It's just a shame that this movie hasn't received the attention it deserves.

The alligators are literally the only thing I recall about watching this movie repeatedly whilst growing up. It made me think all rich people kept them as pets!

In some scenes Tommy Steele pulls the big alligator (George) around and it never reacts. Was it drugged or something? Or can you train alligators that well?

reply

The alligator scenes went on too long. That, and Steele's mugging and waddling were the main problems with this movie.
