Eli Wallach should have been nominated for an Oscar!
As cool as Clint is this movie it's Eli Wallach that steals all the scenes he is in and gives an incredible Oscar worthy performance.
Just another big mistake by the Academy.
I've never seen Wallach in anything other than this movie. I watched it maybe 7 or 8 years ago for the first time and his character was very memorable. Can't compare it to anything else he's done.
I know it's not his fault but the poor dubbing really drags his performance down. When I first saw it, I just assumed he was another Italian actor whose lines were dubbed by someone else.
Watching it again tonight, it's still difficult for me to tell if he's the one delivering those lines. It's a shame really. And for the deleted scenes, they should've gotten an impersonator like they did for Lee Van Cleef.
For whatever reason, Eastwood and Van Cleef's dubbing looks much more natural.
