Doesn't hold up well

None of them were actually musicians and they were all pretty lousy actors too. I have no idea why I even watched this show as a little kid when it first aired. I thought I had better taste than this.

Actually, Nesmith and Tork were definitely musicians before getting hired on the show - you might want to read up on how Nesmith punched a hole in the wall over how he was being treated.

Jones had done Broadway so musical talent is somewhat necessary. Unfamiliar with Dolenz, except he can sing rather well...

Many show's episodes are 5 decades old now and the target audience was children, especially for season 1. Episodes I once liked I cringe over, but the music - especially the stuff they did make on their own (e.g. the Headquarters album and various contributions to songs in prior and later albums ) has held up very well.

I know pop culture loves to keep telling the myth of how they were all fakes. I'm amazed at how people keep believing the repeatedly disproved hype.
