I love this movie

This is a great movie even if it is disjointed. Rod Taylor is excellent - an underrated actor I think - the George Clooney of his day perhaps.... and Maggie Smith is so brilliant in this. I am sure she and Rod had an affair - their chemistry is tangible and they both look gorgeous.

I saw a recent interview with Rod Taylor before seeing the film and wondered about the same thing.

"I loved all my leading ladies. But I think the fun of working and loving at the same time...I...ah...getting on well with somebody and doing good, constructive, immensely talented work was Maggie...I think. Maggie was a delight to work with. But then they have all been wonderful, I've been so lucky."

You may be interested to know that my house was used as a filming location for this movie. It was Maggie Smith's characters house. I have done a blog post about it if you wish to find out further information

Maggie Smith is so good in this. The way the love develops between the two of them is so real and natural. It's an excellent portrayal of a love awakening.

I enjoyed this film too and yes, Smith and Taylor continued their relationship, which began during filming of The V.I.P's two years previously. I'm not gossiping, by the way - it's mentioned in her authorised biography.
